The nexus-monARC project, funded by Horizon Europe, aims to bolster capacity building efforts at the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment, NKUA, focusing on effective water quality monitoring in the Hellenic Volcanic Arc and marine environment enhancement. Through knowledge transfer, twinning, and citizen science activities, the project seeks to elevate scientific expertise while fostering collaboration with top-tier research institutions. The project has been collaborating actively, closely and directly with high-impact global initiatives, such as the Sailing4Science foundation, as well as aiming to align and engage with the UN Ocean Decade movement and its objectives.
The project kicked off early 2023 and has recently held a milestone 1-year meeting in March 13-15, 2024. This important gathering was hosted by our partner, Prof. Martin Hassellöv of the University of Gothenburg, in the premises of the Kristineberg Center for Marine Research and Innovation, located at the heart of Gullmar fjord, in Fiskebäckskil, Sweden.
The 1st year meeting brought together our consortium with the objective to share invaluable insights, and overall strengthen our collaboration. Also, it was a special chance to explore the most recent developments of the nexus monARC project, and plan for future endeavors.
Our team has been excited about participating in this meeting, and aimed to make the most out of this opportunity to engage in fruitful discussions about the project activities as well as chart the course of the interconnected activities for the rest of the project’s duration, including targeting extensions of research collaborations and preparations for new proposals.
During this meeting, Nikos Tsiantis and Dr. Apostolos Parlamas, our two representatives, presented the roadmap to the establishment and the exploitation of the nexus monARC entity. Holding an internal specifications and requirements workshop building on the past year’s nexus establishment activities, special attention was given to providing a more clear understanding on the available options for these activities, providing targeted consultancy to our academic partners on the steps ahead, the potential limitations, and the most appropriate plans to best align with their goals.
We’re eagerly awaiting to see the nexus-monARC project unfold, being excited to witness the impact and innovation that our collaborative efforts will bring.
Stay tuned for exciting updates on the nexus monARC project!
