The Polymers 2024 Conference, co-organised by EXELISIS, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), and MDPI, was held from May 28th to 31st at the esteemed War Museum of Athens. This premier event convened preeminent experts, researchers, and industry leaders in the field of polymers for an enriching four-day program dedicated to the exchange of knowledge, networking, and cultural enrichment.
The conference commenced with anticipation and excitement on the first day. Attendees were welcomed to the EXELISIS booth, where they could delve into our cutting-edge ideas and technological innovations, presenting our diverse services and projects among which BIOMAC, Cobrain, PROPLANET, and NanoPAT, were presented.. The 1st day’s program featured a series of compelling presentations delivered by distinguished representatives in the polymer science community. The evening’s activities included a delightful networking cocktail reception at the War Museum of Athens, where attendees were treated to traditional Greek dances, providing a cultural immersion and exemplifying Greek hospitality.
On the second day, EXELISIS was prominently featured in the first poster session held in the Museum’s Atrium. Esteemed colleagues, Dr. Peny Eleni, Dr. Marinella Tsakalova, and Dr. Kostas Pyrgakis, showcased their groundbreaking research, fostering dynamic discussions among attendees. The day was further enriched by a succession of informative presentations, among which many BIOMAC project expert were included. Participants gained valuable insights into the foundational aspects of the BIOMAC Open Innovation Test Bed, as well as notable developments and success stories to date.
The third day maintained the momentum with an ongoing poster session that highlighted the latest research and advancements in polymer science. This intellectually stimulating day was conclude with a Gala Dinner held in the refined ambiance of the ROYAL OLYMPIC HOTEL. Attendees enjoyed a sophisticated blend of scientific discussions and a taste of the local Greek cuisine. The vibrant atmosphere of the evening provided an ideal setting for celebrating the conference’s achievements while fostering lasting professional relationships against the picturesque backdrop of Athens.
The final day of Polymers 2024 was marked by the conferment of prestigious awards for the best Oral Presentation, Best Poster (sponsored by the journal Polymers), and the Best Student Poster (sponsored by Ossila). This was followed by the Satellite Event, the “Greek Stakeholder Engagement Workshop,” which was organised by EXELISIS in collaboration with AUTH and RDC Informatics under the aegis of the BIOMAC project. This workshop underscored the value of BIOMAC services and the transfer of knowledge, aligning seamlessly with the “Research – Innovate” program (“Ερευνώ – Καινοτομώ”).
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the over 300 participants for their significant contributions, which made this event a unique platform for insightful discussions and extensive networking. Special thanks to our participants for their active engagement and thought-provoking abstracts, which served as a catalyst for inspiring further dialogue and collaboration.
