We are thrilled to announce Coatings 2026: Safe and Sustainable by Design Surface Treatment and Coatings, taking place from April 20th to 22 in Athens, Greece. The event will be hosted at the Wyndham Grand Athens and jointly organised by EXELISIS IKE and MDPI.
This international conference brings together leading researchers, industry professionals, and subject-matter experts to explore the most recent breakthroughs in surface finishing and coatings. With mounting environmental pressures—stricter regulations like REACH, the push of the EU Green Deal, and a global drive toward cleaner production—Coatings 2026 is dedicated to steering the coatings industry toward a sustainable, circular future.
The program will span a broad spectrum of cutting-edge topics, including:
The event will feature keynote lectures, oral presentations, and poster sessions, providing a dynamic platform for discussion, idea exchange, and networking. If you plan to present your research, note that abstract submission and registration are separate processes. Abstracts should be submitted via Sciforum (in English, 150–300 words), and authors can indicate whether they prefer oral or poster presentation. The deadline for covering author registration is March 16, 2026.
Accepted abstracts will be published open access on Sciforum. Moreover, participants will have the opportunity to submit a full manuscript after the conference to a Joint Special Issue in the MDPI journals Coatings and Nanomaterials, with an 800 CHF discount on the publication fee for conference attendees.
To honor outstanding contributions, Coatings 2026 will present five awards:
1 × Best Oral Presentation (EUR 500)
2 × Best Poster Awards (EUR 200 each)
2 × Early Career Researcher Awards (EUR 300 each)
The conference will be held at the Wyndham Grand Athens, which offers modern meeting facilities and is centrally located, making it easy to access Athens’s rich cultural heritage. Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) is well-connected globally, and once in the city, the venue is easily reachable via metro or taxi.
Visa Support: The organisers can issue a Visa Support Letter if needed (applicants must have paid registration, submitted an abstract, and provided a scan of their passport and institutional support letter).
Registration Fees: Varied rates depending on category (academic, student, non-academic, etc.).
Cancellation Policy: Refunds are available up to two months before the conference (with an administrative fee), with reduced refunds closer to the event.
Insurance: Delegates are encouraged to arrange their own travel and medical insurance.
Badges & Access: All attendees must wear conference badges at all times, areas such as session rooms and poster zones are restricted to badge holders.
The surface finishing and coatings industry is at a pivotal moment: to stay competitive and responsible, the sector must navigate environmental regulations, toxicity concerns, and resource scarcity. Coatings 2026 offers a space where academia, industry, and policy can converge to rethink and redesign surface treatment processes, from raw materials to lifecycle impact. Beyond the scientific program, Athens itself offers a rich cultural backdrop: from the Acropolis to its charming neighborhoods and world-class cuisine, it’s a compelling destination for both work and exploration.
