EXELISIS successfully organised the Final Dissemination Event of our Horizon Europe project nexus monARC, celebrating the completion of three years of intensive collaboration, scientific exchange, and capacity-building activities focused on environmental monitoring in complex marine environments. The event marked a major milestone of the project, bringing together researchers, institutional representatives, local stakeholders, and members of the wider environmental community to reflect on the achievements of the consortium and to discuss the legacy of the project beyond its completion.

During the event, leading academics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and partner initiatives presented the scientific and organisational progress enabled by nexus monARC. Particular emphasis was placed on the upgrades of laboratory workflows, the strengthening of analytical and quality-assurance practices, the establishment of citizen-science methodologies, and the creation of durable networks linking science with society. The discussions highlighted how the project has reinforced NKUA’s capacity to participate in complex, multidisciplinary European collaborations and to coordinate future initiatives in environmental monitoring.
EXELISIS played a central role in shaping the project’s long-term sustainability strategy. Throughout the project, our team supported the consortium with innovation management activities, exploitation planning, and targeted training actions, including Horizon Europe proposal-writing seminars and Intellectual Property Rights awareness sessions. One of the key outputs our team has led in this collaboration was the development of a comprehensive business plan for a potential NKUA spin-off, which reflects the exploitation ambitions of the research team and demonstrates how scientific know-how generated within the project could be translated into structured services and applied environmental solutions in the future.

Just prior to the final event, nexus monARC implemented an ambitious Flagship Tour across the islands of the Hellenic Volcanic Arc. The research vessel visited ports such as Kos, Nisyros, Milos and Santorini, hosting scheduled public visits, school activities and hands-on demonstrations of marine monitoring techniques. Hundreds of citizens, including a large number of young students, had the opportunity to meet the scientists, explore research instruments and take part in citizen-science actions. These visits represented a powerful expression of the project’s outreach vision, strengthening the network of local stakeholders and embedding scientific awareness within island communities.
The successful completion of nexus monARC demonstrates how European Coordination and Support Actions can generate long-lasting impact far beyond their technical objectives. The combination of scientific excellence, community engagement, structured capacity building and clear exploitation planning enabled the project to lay the foundations for continued collaboration and future growth. EXELISIS is proud to have contributed to this effort and remains committed to supporting research teams in turning knowledge into sustainable value.
